"Ula Stöckl's Erika's Passions is a very odd but engaging fictional hour from Germany in which two former flatmates meet again and fall, protesting, in and out of old habits. The film lives up to its blurb with rare thoroughness: 'as they talk, the patterns of their previous relationships become clear - the assumptions that each made about the other, the roles that each forced the other to play.' And yet it is only the patterns that become clear; in categorical terms, on the othe hand, one cannot really be sure how intimate a relationship it has been, or whether the new plateau of understanding that is reached (in a flooded bathroom) implies an amicable parting or a renewal of ties."
