El disputado voto del Sr. Cayo" is a novel by Miguel Delibes, published in 1978, which tells of the meeting of two very different ways of living: the young people who come to make political campaign deserted village of Castile and the "Sr. Cayo" (Francisco Rabal), one of two villagers.
Delibes dealt perform theater reviews his first stint as an editor at the newspaper "El Norte de Castilla" and maybe that's why many of his novels have been made into films. Also in the film we can see, with the inevitable sadness of the passing of time, some streets and places of Burgos capital and Poza de la Sal, that in the movie is called "Martos".
Part of the film was shot in Cortiguera, people belonging to the neighborhood council of Valdelateja. It is a treasure for hikers and mythologized place in ruins status where time seems to stand still, the town in which only two families living in close proximity Pesquera de Ebro, front Ebro Cannon and protected on a hillside between large trees, brambles and weeds rebel.
Some of the corners Cortiguera pictorial were captured by the camera for the film: emblazoned houses, dilapidated ruin stone walls, narrow unpaved streets, the Palace of "de la Fuente Bustamante", civil architectural jewel of the eighteenth century ... all places worth knowing film with his magical silence.
Miguel Delibes, at first, did not seem appropriate choice of Francisco Rabal as protagonist. He thought that the actor's fame of "Aguilas" (Murcia), would eclipse the humility and simplicity of "Sr. Cayo" and preferred a less known artist. But, after seeing his work and recalling the great role he did in 'Los Santos Inoventes' (Mario Camus, 1982) as "Azarías" ,Delibes discovered in looking Rabal strength of his character, the villager humanity, wisdom of Old Castile ... and was captivated by his performance and gave him a very complimentary article in the newspaper ABC, entitled 'La Mirada del actor'. Delibes Rabal finally admitted that it was a good "Sr. Cayo" on the screen.
This admiration was mutual, and many meetings together came a friendship between the writer and performer, remembering that Delibes wrote a biography of the actor of Murcia. And although Rabal was excited about this project finally was not carried out.
