Born and raised in Indianapolis, Rogers attended Emory University in Atlanta. He then moved to Los Angeles to find work in the film industry and was accepted at various studios as an assistant director for numerous films for the next ten years.
Some of his credits as assistant director include Sorority House Massacre II (which he also wrote), 3 Ninjas, The Puppet Masters, Dumb & Dumber, There's Something About Mary, American Pie and Me, Myself and Irene (the latter three he also co-produced).
